Social Action Day 2009

On Sunday November 29th, the B’nai Tzedek Teen Philanthropy program brought out 26 enthusiastic teens for its annual Social Action Day. Students ranging from 12-17 years of age were proactive in our community both through volunteering their time as well as allocating money to organizations in need through an interactive exercise. Program participants put smiles on faces as they bowled the afternoon away with students from Zareinu, sorted clothing so that others can shop with dignity at Just a Second Shop, and prepared a delicious hot meal for a local women’s shelter. Students were not only able to reach out to the community first hand, but were also informed with great detail on the impact of agencies who work to empower and strengthen vulnerable populations in the Greater Toronto Area. Alex Iscoe shared his experiences in regard to his endeavor to climb the 7 Summits and raise money for UJA to help others in need. His inspiring words solidified the need to push limits and lend support to both the Toronto Jewish Community and beyond.

Dear B’nai Tzedek Teen Philanthropy Program,

On behalf of Jewish Family and Child, thank you for your volunteer involvement with The Just-A-Second Shop on your B’nai Tzedek Social Action Day, Sunday November29, 2009.

The Just - A Second Shop offers new and gently used clothing and small household items at very reasonable prices. Proceeds from the shop support the many ways Jewish Family and Child serves the community, with a special focus on sending children to Jewish day and overnight camps. Needy clients of our Agency are able to select a certain number of items at no charge.

Because of the dedicated volunteers from the B’nai Tzedek Teen Philanthropy Program that came out this day, we were able to help many members of our community. Please know that your B’nai Tzedek Social Action Day and all your volunteer work has been very much appreciated.

We really appreciate your kindness and support.
